Diflumax®

Physiological insecticide action by contact and ingestion of the chemical group benzoylurea

Description

DIFLUMAX® is a physiological insecticide whose active ingredient, diflubenzuron, acts by interfering with the deposition of chitin, one of the main components of the insect cuticle. After ingestion of the product, the larvae have difficulties in ecdysis phasis. The poorly formed cuticle of the new instar cannot withstand the internal pressure during the ecdysis and/or cannot give sufficient support to the muscles involved. This results in an inability to release the exuviates and ultimately leads to the death of the larvae. DIFLUMAX® acts mainly by ingestion. The compound has no systemic effect on plants and does not penetrate plant tissues. Consequently, sucking insects are not affected. These characteristics form the basis for additional selectivity among insects.

DIFLUMAX® has no shock action, and the death of the pests occurs a few days after a treatment. Therefore, the infestation should not be expected to reach the level of control.

Examples of applications

This action is quite specific; related biochemical processes such as the synthesis of chitin in fungi and the biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid and other mucipolisaccharides in chickens, rats and rats are not affected.
